Terms of Service

Introduction

RCX is built as an open source application. The app (hereafter “Service”, “App”, “RCX”) is provided at no cost and intended for use as is. RCX is provided to you by x0b and/or other developers (hereafter “we”, “us”) under the terms of the GPLv3 license. We provide these terms of service to make the lawyers happy.

As developers, we do our best to provide a bug-free and functional application. However, we cannot exclude the risk of errors. RCX is a tool for advanced users, the incorrect use of which may lead to data loss and/or other damage. Therefore, we strongly recommend reading the RCX documentation as well as the rclone documentation.

Data loss and other damage

RCX may transfer you data incorrectly, or cause accidental destruction of data. We therefore recommend the use of backups. When using the link functionality, RCX may also create public share links of private data. Also keep in mind that sync synchronises deletions, and may wipe entire drives if used without care. Using RCX on rooted devices is not supported. We strongly recommend using a PIN code as well as storage encryption for your device.

Network/Data Usage

RCX is a network application and can transfer large amounts of data. Using RCX with mobile data, roaming or other connectivity may cause large amounts of traffic flow. The Wifi-only switch of RCX may fail unexpectedly. Please review the wifi, data, roaming and any other connectivity settings on your device before using RCX. We do not take any responsibility for any damage (e.g. third party service charges) resulting from or arising out of the use of RCX.

Availability and Features

The app is distributed as binary APK file over multiple distribution channels (Google Play, GitHub, F-Droid). We make no guaranties of availability over any distribution channel. Availability of features is not guaranteed. The app may stop working at any point.

Releases and updates

We may update the app at any time. The app may require specific Android versions and other installed or enabled components. We may change the eligibility criteria for future updates at point.

Names, Logos, Trademarks

RCX, the T-Rex logo, and any other branding is subject to trademark, copyright and other law. These items are not covered by the GPLv3 license. If you want to redistribute RCX under the RCX name, please contact us to work something out.

Changes to This Terms and Conditions

We may update our Terms and Conditions from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Terms and Conditions on this page.

Privacy Policy

This section is used to inform you about our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of both personal and non-personal information when using RCX.

Personal Information

RCX does not contain any functionality to collect your personal data. We (and the service providers we use) may briefly process personal information in the following circumstances:

  • Your IP address while receiving an error report.

This information is processed to facilitate delivery of error reports. After receiving your report or message, we do not process, store or otherwise use your IP address.

Non-Personal Information

When running RCX for the first time, you will be asked to enable error reports. Error reports help us developers by telling us what exactly went wrong. However, they do not allow us to identify you.

The error reports sent to us may contain the following information (cf. documentation from Microsoft:

  • Exception name (e.g. SecurityException)
  • Redacted message (e.g. {"tag": "FileCopy", "message": "Could not copy file ***REDACTED***"})
  • Stacktrace (i.e. code line number)
  • Installation ID (allows answering the question, “Did this error occur once to 5 users or 5 times to one user?")
  • Timestamp (e.g. 2020-07-01T01:02:03Z)
  • Model (e.g. Pixel 4)
  • OEM (e.g. Google)
  • Screen Size (e.g. 1080x1920)
  • Android Version and API Level (e.g. 11, 30)
  • Android Build Code (e.g. LMY47X)
  • Time Zone and Locale (e.g. UTC-6, US, en-US)
  • Carrier Name and Country (if the app runs on a phone)
  • Crash cause (what the app was doing, e.g. copying a file)

This data is processed by Microsoft using the Appcenter plattform (privacy policy). Any error report is deleted automatically after 90 days. We may retain aggregated reports longer during error investigations or upon request from you.

This Service may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children’s Privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.
